Memorial Day Grill Party

On Memorial Day, we invited the gang over for a grill party. We bought ribs, steaks, veggies, drinks, fired up the grill and basically ate a ton of food. The hot dogs were popular, as always, and the ribs were also extremely good. I'm proud to say that I marinated the ribs, and although they were a little charred, they tasted great.

Brownie also had a wonderful time, chasing after everyone with food and getting enough treats and tidbits to keep him very very happy. We also got some use of the new swivel patio chairs which were are big hit with the guests.

R made his famous flourless chocolate cake which we ate with ice cream that A bought...so good.
After the feast, we gathered around the play Scattegories, the only game that we were up to playing after each eating just too much meat.

The next day, I had indigestion. Haha...small price to pay for a good party!

Blah Blah Day

Memorial Day weekend officially began!

Today was pretty uneventful. The contractors came and finished up the roof this morning and were gone shortly after lunch.

Then I waited for U. and R. to come by, they were buying me lunch from Mitsuwa, they are so sweet. By the time they got to my house, it was already 4PM. Apparently, they, plus C & A wanted to see a new condo for sale at Riverbend in Edgewater called The Hudson Club. I decided to ride along.

We saw a couple of one and two bedrooms, they were quite expensive, which was really to be expected. The cheapest one bedroom was $425K and the most expensive unit we saw was a three bedroom that cost $753K. Of course, these are luxury condos and the maintenance fees included full use of the club house with a gym, pool, jacuzzi, basketball court, and other amenities, which were really quite attracted. My favorite unit was a 2 bedroom duplex that came fully funished and decorated for $695K. I know I would never purchase such a place, but it was just so beautiful. To be honest, I felt a little bad that the agent showed us so many places and we really didn't have the intention to buy. But I guess for him, that's just the cost of doing business.

After Ricky got home, we met up again and went to Bertucci's for dinner. For some reason, I think the quality of the food there is going down. I don't know if it's because I'm used to going to Vespa where the food is so much better. In any case, I doubt I will be going back to Bertucci's any time soon. I had the lasanga, on of their signature dishes, and it was really too sour for my taste. Not really what I had expected from them at all.

Fireworks in Jersey City

More fireworks pictures. Last night I didn't think they turned out so well, but after a little cropping, they actually look pretty good!

Is May 24th special?

I got 3 out of office email messages, and, unexpected fireworks at night! I was sitting around, watching TV when I heard a sudden BOOM, was quite frightening really. Then I looked out the window and saw the fireworks. They were SO close! I had a better view of the fireworks from my house than when I sent to see fireworks on purpose. I wonder...is May 24th a special day?

I managed to submit my passport for renewal today, very happy, another thing off my list of things to do. In 10 days I should be able to pick up my new passport and be ready to take off!

Some bad news

Our tenant, D.'s house (downstairs) got broken into. D left a message with us last night, but I was sleeping, so we didn't pick up the phone. We just found out about it tonight.

Not too much was stolen, laptop, cash, camera. The scary thing is that the thieves hacked through the top of the lock on the METAL front door. It is of course, the same lock that we have on our doors. Now I have to go out and buy a new lock so we can install a new door. *sigh*

I WON!

It was a rough few days battling with the flu/cold virus. Today was especially bad. I woke up, felt awful, but decided to read Da Vinci code for a while because I didn't think I could go back to sleep. Ricky woke up and came downstairs and turned on the TV, which gave me a headache, so I went back to bed to read, but ended up lying down trying to sleep. Which was hard because I was so congested, couldn't breathe...so uncomfortable. Two hours later, I ventured out of bed again, went downstairs, watched TV with Ricky until 3PM or so, had some soup, and crawled back into bed.

That was it, the crucial nap. The rest my body needed to divert it's resources to fighting this big bad virus. When I went to bed, both my hands and feet were freezing, I woke up and was super hot and sweaty. But I felt better. My joints were no longer achy and my congestion cleared some what. Ricky said it was DayQuil, I think it was because I WON! My WBC's conquered the nasty virus that was making me so miserable. HAR HAR. I was even strong enough to go out for dinner.

Now...Ricky has a sore throat....

Da Vinci Code - The Movie

Still sick today, but a little better than yesterday. My voice came back so at least I can speak!

My cousin H decided to take the flight back to Hong Kong today, so she took us out to a nice brunch and we drove her out to JFK to catch her flight. Lunch was at the 3 Forty Restaurant in Hoboken, right on the riverfront, very pretty! The traffic to JFK was heavy, but manageable and we made good time. H gave me hourly updates on whether we would be able to get on the plane and luckily, she did!

After dropping H off, we drove to Columbia to pick up the stuff I had left in my locker. It is so sad to think that I will hardly even visit that the place I had frequently almost daily for the past two years. The lobby in Uris Hall was under construction and I suppose will be spanking new and beautiful for the new class of 2008.

On the way home, we stopped by Target to pick up some basics. Target! My favorite store! :) The coolest new purchase are solar powered outdoor lights that we placed in strategic locations on the deck. I love them! The deck was so dark before and going down the stairs a night was often frightening, now, the subtle deck illumination makes things safer and adds a bot of mood lighting to the surroundings.

Finally, we met up with C&A, E and A to see The Da Vinci Code. The movie was eh...ok. It actually kind of dragged and there wasn't enough action to make the movie exciting. All the intellectual exercises in the book had to be skimmed over to keep the story moving and that really took away from the "revelation" factor that made the book so interesting. I'd give it a 3+ out of 5, knowing how hard it must have been to translate such a complicated plot into a 2.5 hr screenplay.

Sick Day

Very sick today. My voice started going last night, and I was hoping it would get better by the morning but not, it was worse. I sound like sandpaper on metal. :(

Signed the contract on Westside Station today! YAY! So happy, I am so eager to get the house off my hands. The price was not bad too, even though we are not making much money, at least we are not losing money. Since the house is not in Downtown New Jersey, it is just too much for Ricky and I to manage. Pretty amazing though, we listed with an agent for 3 days and right away we had a good offer! NICE!

The Day I Lost my Rings

May 4th, Thursday, I thought I lost both my wedding and engagement rings. Needless to say, I was hysteric. Hysterical was an understatement. I spent the night searching all over the house, even ran out to the curb to pick up the bag of trash that I had thrown out, and went through that. The next day, I spent the entire day scouring the house for them. By Saturday, when I was absolutely certain that there was no where else I could look, I gave up. Lo and behold! Sunday night, I took a shower before leaving for a dinner Dis-orientation event. When I walked out of the shower, there my rings were, sitting on the bathroom counter top, the same place that I had look, so so many times. Plain as day. Very weird....

Here's the list I had made of every activity I did on May 4, in my desperation to figure out where I could possibly have lost my ring.

Woke up at 10:16 or so
Broke onion holder lid
Looked for glue to fix lid
Made coffee, drank coffee
Made garlic bread for breakfast

Went for run – riverwalk to past grand hyatt and back
Went home, took off knee brace got poo poo bags
Took brownie for walk
Also on river walk, picked up 2 more poo poo bags
Let him run around in Liberty State Park
Walked him home
Almost 8PM when I got home
Went to open window, too tight
Opened Patio door and then got brownie his water
Went back to open the window successfully
